During last weekend’s conference, the morning devotionals were according to the ‘Lectio Divina’ method.<\/a> This is a contemplative way of bible study and meditation with a small group of people. The basic thought is to have the bible speak to you through the Holy Spirit:
– one of the group reads a couple of verses two times
– take 2-3 minutes to meditate and have a word or a phrase come up
– share the word or phrase
– read the passage again and take another 2 minutes to contemplate
– share a little more about the word or phrase, what is relevant to your current situation
– read the passage again
– share about the application of the word or phrase for today
– pray for the person next to you.
As die-hard evangelicals we sometimes feel uncomfortable with the word meditation, but it works great. Lectio Divina requires you to sit down, be quiet and open your mind – we do that too little, I think. And I believe this last weekend, most people found this way of devotionals refreshing and good.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
