\"\"Monday night we were invited to the Dutch premiere of ‘Amazing Grace<\/a>‘, the movie about William Wilberforce and his lifelong political campaign against slave trade and social injustice. A moving story, well pictured, and from an interesting angle. Slave trade as such was not so much the topic as were the personal struggles of Wilberforce in the political arena – his drive, the highs and lows, the nasty games that are played in Parliament.<\/p>\n

Afterwards there was a debate with a member of Parliament and people from the food industry on the topic of modern slavery – at least, that was what it was supposed to be. It turned out to be a debate on lawmaking as an instrument for transparency in the food industry. Quite boring, to be honest.<\/p>\n

But the best was yet to come. We had the chance to talk a bit with one of the highest ranked Christian politicians and his wife, who were also attending the event. We prayed for them, as he faces some of the same challenges that Wilberforce had. An hour later or so we walked back to the car when a junkie stopped us and asked for money. We did not carry any money on us, but we gave him the goodies we just had received from the event (fair chocolate, fair coffee…). Mira grabbed a Knowing God Personally booklet from her pocket, and we talked to him for a couple of minutes. Interestingly, when he saw the booklet he immediately started talking about the Christian detox clinic he had been to. We ended up praying for him on the street; he was really touched.<\/p>\n

When we got to the car, the surreality of things hit us. We ministered to one of the country’s most powerful politicians and to one of the country’s most rejected paupers in less than an hour apart, praying and sharing Gods amazing grace with them.
