Just returned from the Agap\u00e8 New Year conference. From Wednesday to Friday we had meetings and workshops during the day while sleeping at home. Led by Henk Bakker, professor at the Christelijke Hogeschool Ede, we discussed 2nd Corinthians 5:11 – 21, which deals with the mystery of being a new creation if you ‘are in Christ’ – the old has gone, the new has come. Asking the question what this ‘old’ and ‘new’ is, we explored the implications of Jesus’ death and ressurection, which basically can be categorized in four areas: restoring the relationship between God and man, between man and man, between man and creation, and between man and himself. Especially in the evangelical tradition (that I consider us to be part of) we have often limited the gospel to only the first category (between God and man). But in fact, the gospel is as much about our human relationships and about our attitude towards the environment as it is about our being made right with God. That might be the first and most fundamental part of it, but Henk did a good job in triggering us to think about the consequences; we are not only here to be righteous (vs 21) but also to produce fruits of righteousness.<\/p>\n
